My standard modus operandi whenever I’m doing something for an audience that doesn’t know I’m doing it, is to not let them know until it’s almost done so that I can be as lazy with delays as I feel like. That certainly paid off with The Lost Hound, allowing me to leave the project by the wayside for months at a time, but as of late, it occurred to me that I could maybe not be a complete lazy douchebag and actually work on things on a semi-consistent basis.
Having just finished the first of two phases of my new title and then verified you can play through it without the code having a seizure, I figured I might as well announce it to put some motivational pressure on my back. Tentatively called “The Aftermath” (To get an idea of how little priority I assign to titling, “The Lost Hound” was a file called “Battle System Test” for 99% of its development cycle), it is not so much a sequel to The Lost Hound as it’s more of a standalone expansion. That means it introduces no revolutionary new mechanics, it’s a tangential episode within the overarching nebulous plot and it does not do particularly much to improve on TLH’s relative lack of branching paths or player choice. But at least the map isn’t just a reskin of whatever was used in the main game, so that’s ONE thing I’ve got over Gat out of Hell and Far Cry Blood Dragon!
Jokes aside, the game came about as I was testing how to write conversations using the AskTell model and one or two permutations of threesome encounters, predictably ballooning out into an entire plot by my obsessive compulsive need to contextualize everything I write well beyond the interest of anybody in the audience. It also let me polish off a couple of leftover characterization points (I know, I know, but I care, let me have this) that couldn’t be adequately covered in TLH’s timeframe and just write out a game where you can easily jump into the sex stuff. Let’s just say it’s most certainly not a “slow careful buildup” title.
Additionally, this is part of my self-imposed challenge to both prove I’m not another author to put out a thing and then vanish into the ether, as well as actually finish a thing within months instead of years, especially as I have begun to tentatively eyefuck internet panhandler services such as Patreon, partially motivated by the success of BBBen’s venture, but mainly by a rapidly devaluating national currency progressively blurring the line between what most of the developed world calls “chump change” and I call “my entire goddamn salary”. But that’s a bit of a depressing topic, so let’s segue the fuck away.
Finally, motivated by both simple curiosity and a bit of market research, I came up with a short poll regarding which heroine was your favourite in TLH, mostly so I can get an idea on what most people around these parts go for. Linked below:

That is about it for now. Although I said I finished the first phase of the game, the second is planned to be somewhat longer, so I can’t really say I’m truly halfway done. On the other hand, I do have the entire thing planned THIS time around, so there ought to be less delays as I spend idle time figuring out where so and so thing is going or how to connect that thing I thought about with the rest of the game. Who knows, maybe I can polish it off in less time that I thought.
Until next time!
Palaverous.
